Der Leber ist eine große fleischige Organ, die auf der rechten Seite des Bauches sitzt. Mit einem Gewicht von etwa 3 Pfund ist die Leber rotbraun in Farbe und fühlt sich gummiartig an. Normalerweise kann man die Leber nicht spüren, weil sie durch den Brustkorb geschützt ist.

Der Leber has two large sections called the right and the left lobes. Der gallbladder sits under the Leber along with parts of the pancreas and intestines. Der Leber and these organs work together to digest absorb and process food.

Der Leber's main job is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract before passing it to the rest of the body. Der Leber also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. As it does so the Leber secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines. Der Leber also makes proteins important for blood clotting and other functions.
